The heart of your home’s electrical system is the main electrical panel and weatherproof electrical box, which is known as a breaker box commonly. In the modern world, it is an essential device and in your house, this is one of the most important found safety mechanisms.

From the utility company, your household’s electricity is sent to your home either through underground conduits, overhead power lines, or both combinations. The energy, after passing through your home’s electric meter, is then sent to the main electrical panel for distribution all across the house. Providing electricity to appliances, light fixtures, and outlets throughout the house, the main panel is the distribution center of your dwelling’s power.

From the incoming energy source, the main breakers draw electricity and to these 2 main buss bars, they transfer it. For example, one may control the power flow to the dwelling’s air conditioning unit, while another may control the electricity flow to a particular room of the house.

To sub-panels, larger beakers found in buildings may divert power with a higher capacity. Used to control a specific aspect of the house, these sub-panels will have their own set of breakers.

With the building’s main service panel, a ground wire (usually copper) is always installed for safety reasons. Located within the panel, this metal wire runs from the neutral connector to a metal rod driven into the ground.

A mechanical switch for each of the circuits is present in every main electrical panel of home within the residence. Thereby cutting power to that aspect of the home, these switches allow the circuit to be purposefully temporarily broken. To electrical aspects of the building, these are used when repairs or service must be performed. Also due to a failure in the circuit like a power overload, these switches may be tripped automatically. This is to prevent damage to the building as well as the electrical system, such as an electrical fire.

On the main breaker, the maximum power amperage capacity is printed for your home. Most residences have a 100-amp capacity, Sufficient enough for all energy needs in the household. Into the future, this ensures sufficient energy capability. With a 60-amp capacity or lower, some older homes may be found and with a 200-amp capacity, some newer homes are being built. For modern household needs, this amperage is now considered insufficient and for safety reasons, these homes should have an electrical upgrade and weatherproof outlet box.
